For kindergarten age students, your child must be 5 by September 1 to enroll as a kindergartener for 2026-27 school year.
Use our online school locator to find out which school boundaries you live in. If you have verified your school and it is within our Highland Park Elementary boundaries, please have the following prepared when registration begins.
- A original or certified copy of students birth certificate (https://vitalrecords.utah.gov/certificates/order-a-vital-record-certificate).
- A current immunization record or official immunization exemption (https://immunize.utah.gov/immunization-education-module/).
- *State of Utah required immunizations 5 DTap/DT (or if 4th dose was given on/after the 4th birthday), 4 Polio (3 doses if 3rd dose was given on/after 4th birthday, 3 Hepatitis B, 2 Hepatitis A, 2 MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), 2 Varicella (chicken Pox)
- Proof of residency (copy of mortgage, rental agreement, or bill with verified address).
- Current Parent/Guardian photo ID.
Students interested in enrolling in a Salt Lake City School District school, but live outside the district or school boundaries may apply for an out-of-resident transfer by completing an online Open Enrollment Application.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Children must be 5 years old on or before September 1 to enroll for kindergarten. (Utah Code 53G-4-401) Additionally, with the passing of
HB 331, students are required to be toilet trained before being enrolled in kindergarten. All kindergartens in SLCSD are full-day programs. However, families can choose to register for a half-day option.

Students attending full-day kindergarten will follow a schedule equivalent to the other grades in the school. They will receive comprehensive instruction on the state-approved standards in all content areas, including the arts, PE, and library.

Students attending either a half-day kindergarten class or a half-day kindergarten option within a full-day kindergarten class will attend school for part of the day as determined by individual schools and will receive instruction that prioritizes the state-approved standards for the content areas of English language arts and mathematics as required by R277-730. Please note that midday transportation will not be provided for those attending half-day kindergarten options.
